1400 Coleman Ave - Mercer University
Gothic Revival Style | c.1872-74
Mercer University, founded in Penfield, Ga. in 1833, came to Macon in 1871. The administration building, designed by a Chicago architect who had experienced the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, included fireproof features such as sand between floors under the fireplaces and extra-thick exterior brick walls.
